The first-round selection obtained by the Baltimore Ravens did not waste any time in expressing his gratitude to his father by presenting him with a brand-new luxury SUV.
After less than a month in the NFL, Baltimore Ravens receiver Zay Flowers is giving back to his supporters.
Flowers surprised his father, Willie Flowers, with a new Mercedes SUV as his first large post-draft buy. The recent draftee received this gift as a modest thank you for his father’s sacrifices.
“I used to see him get up and go to work at 4 a.m. in the morning; he did that every day Monday through Friday,” Flowers recalled. “On Saturdays, he would wake up early, wash our clothes at the laundry, prepare breakfast for all of us, and drive us to football games.” After that, repeat the process on Sunday before returning to work on Monday. Thus, simply witnessing him accomplish that motivated me.”Willie in particular has had to make more compromises than anyone else in the Flowers family. In 2005, Jackie Walden, Zay Flowers’ mother, lost her life as a result of a brain ιиנυяу. After this catastrophe, Willie Flowers was left to raise 14 children on his own, Zay being the eleventh. Willie Flowers taught his kid a valuable lesson that made his presence in Baltimore fateful. Zay Flowers is 5-9, 185 pounds, but his father taught him not to allow his size stop him. Willie Flowers compared his kid to former Ravens receiver Steve Smith Sr. before the draft. Zay Flowers now wears his idol’s jersey.”My dad always told me, ‘It doesn’t matter about size; it’s about what’s in your chest,'” Flowers said. He always inspired me by saying, ‘You have to be like Steve Smith. Steve Smith was a dog.”Before joining Baltimore, the Ravens liked Zay Flowers’ character. Eric DeCosta, the Queen City’s general manager, claimed the receiver’s narrative influenced his selection after the first round. After extensive study and interviews, we selected Zay as a player to mention. I haven’t interviewed many more impressive face-to-face prospects at the Combine or in Baltimore “DeCosta remarked. I was impressed by his tale, resiliency, and capacity to accomplish and handle problems.
